I wanted somewhere to write and draw whatever I wanted, to get some of my creative ideas out of my head and into the wild.
I work as a graphic designer so I spend a lot of time sitting down, bringing other people’s ideas to life. As a result of that, I often have themes or ideas that I want to explore, but can’t so Between 6 And 16 Miles is a way to do that. It’s also a good way to come up with new vectors for my design work too. You can see my graphics and web design stuff here at Enginehead Studio.
Running is a welcome break from the sitting position and it gives me chance to let my imagination wander and wrap itself around the wonders of living things. I love the natural world and I love the British landscape, so running up and down the Peak District is for me, mana from Heaven. I’m often on the Edges and the moors and anywhere with a hill or a dale really, trying to find somewhere to escape to and run for a while.
You can find me racing in long distance events all over the Peak, the Hathersage Hurtle and The Nine Edges being two recent favourites. Most of my weekends revolve around being out in Nature somewhere and from 7am on Saturdays I’m out in the snow, the rain, the sun and whatever else the weather systems have cooked up for keen outdoors-people and hill-running enthusiasts.
As a runner, I write quite a bit for Like The Wind magazine. If you enjoy running and you enjoy the culture and you enjoy reading about it, I encourage you to get yourself an issue and see what they do. The artwork is great and the writers are excellent and the stories come from all over the world.
I hope you enjoy the results of wildlife, exercise and self-indulgence.
